Evacuation Level Three: Get Out NOW! — Are You Ready?

In our neck of the woods, fire has been on everyone's minds the last few weeks as we have had several raging close by. There are many people who have been called on the  phone or have had a fireman knock on the door with the fearful news that they have to get out of their house. NOW! Evacuation Level One means to be ready to leave. Evacuation Level Two means to have your things packed, it may happen soon. Evacuation Level Three means: GET OUT NOW! I believe we have the same message from the ... View the Post

The ONE Thing

Mary found it. Martha missed it. I want it. An intimate story in the life of Jesus as recorded by Luke takes us into the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary. Jesus and His twelve disciples stopped by for lunch that day. Martha must have known they were coming, and she had to prepare a meal for sixteen people, possibly more, most of them men. I'm sure they had servants, but I'm sure you can sympathize with Martha in the rush of that morning's preparations. Let's go back in time to the morning ... View the Post

Out of Control!

I heard recently that we should pray that God would lead us to a place where, unless He shows up, we will die. That's a scary prayer! It's kind of like praying that we will have a huge trial so we can grow in patience. Who would pray for trials? Isn't that a little masochistic? It seems to me that God allows abundant experiences in our lives that present opportunities to grow and to reach out to Him without praying for them. Maybe I'm unspiritual, but that's how I see it! Yet sometimes we ... View the Post

The Dark Ages — Are We Going Back?

Some people think of medieval days with a kind of halo around it that speaks of romance, purity, courage, sweetness and light. It was the era of the knight in shining armor who defended and fought for his lady-love. It was the time of evil barons, epic battles, and desperate last-stand defense of castles and lands. Yet if you scratch the surface only a little, you will see a different picture. What would life be like if you lived in England in 1202 AD? Fear. Superstition. Darkness. Wars, mass ... View the Post

At the Top of Victory Peak

A crazy wonderful summer spent in Alaska changed my life forever. Memories from that summer with a few pictures brings tears to my eyes and a warm glow to my heart. In one of my previous posts (How NOT to Catch A Husband), I told you about what happened the summer of 1967 when I went to Alaska, to Victory Bible Camp, and met a fellow named Dan Work. He and I were counselors at the camp that summer. I found some pictures to go with that story that I thought you might enjoy. So, here you go – ... View the Post

Six Important Life Lessons I Learned on the Road to Bethlehem

It's not an easy journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Especially when you're pregnant.   1. Do what God asks you to do even if it's hard. I walked that road once, a long time ago, and we didn't have cars, planes, motor bikes, or any other kind of powered vehicle to help like you have today. We didn't even have a horse or a camel. I hate to break it to you, but we didn't have a donkey, either. Oh, rats. Now you'll have to find new picture for your Christmas cards! I was incredulous ... View the Post
