We were missionaries with three children, living in Three Hills, Alberta, ministering to the Stoney Indian people NW of Edmonton and to the Blackfoot Indian people east of Calgary. We lived by faith. People sent money regularly to us for our food, clothing, gas and rent. When we needed a bed for Brian, his kindegarten class at Prairie Bible Grade School found one for him and delivered it to our door. It is not easy to live by faith, and just when you think you've arrived, something ... View the Post
How NOT to Be A Good Leader — Lessons from A Confused Turkey
"Come on, you lazy chicks! Get out of bed! We have a lot to do today." Mrs. Turkey scolded, prodded, and threatened her chicks, but they remained obdurate, squeaking in the most annoying fashion as they huddled close together in the boughs of the tall blue spruce on the edge of our lawn. The chicks tried to ignore Mom, but she kept at it. Eventually, they appeared, looking rather frazzled and unkempt as they flapped to the ground and watched their Mom carefully. The problem with the whole ... View the Post
The View from the Huckleberry Patch
The air is clear with the smell of fir, pine and damp earth as Dan and I make our way up the old logging road to the bottom of the mountain where we hope we will find huckleberry heaven, ie, lots of huckleberries. These are little purple berries that explode with flavor in your mouth. As I walk up the path, I enjoy the daisies that grow in profusion along the trail, the dense underbrush where little animals scurry around, and the cry of the eagle that soars overhead. We catch sight of a ... View the Post
Life Lessons I Learned from My Cat
1) Don't make judgments too quickly. Something that looks undesirable might turn out to be the best. I really didn't want the kitten my neighbor brought to me. She looked scrawny, her eyes were runny, she probably had fleas and worms, and worst of all, she was afraid of me. She looked back at me with incredibly blue eyes and I saw only fear. She was all white except for her ears (which were brown) and her tail (which was black). My daughter wanted to call her Dipstick. If I'd had a choice, I ... View the Post
Laugh Here — A Chiropractic Cow
God must have a sense of humor! Dan suffered with a bad back and almost constant pain for many years. He saw many chiropractors, spent a week in the hospital, did exercises and prayed a lot about the pain. I suffered along with him, hoping and praying that something would heal his back! Little did we dream that a cow would be the answer to our prayers! One day while living in Culdesac, Idaho, Dan went to help a fellow in our church with his cows. He was "working" cows -- don't remember what he ... View the Post
Medieval Christian Fiction
With what do you associate the medieval time era? Bloodshed? Violence? Disorder? Darkness? Who wants to read about these things? I have heard time and again that people do not like to read medieval fiction, and to put Christian in with it only makes it worse. How could there be anything Christian about a time period in history where Darkness ruled supreme? But the stories I have unearthed from this time period, true stories, are fascinating. My biggest problem in writing Sirocco Wind was to ... View the Post
